When it comes time to upgrade or decorate your home, it’s easy to put it off assuming it is going to cost a small fortune and take up a whole bunch of your time.  Often you think of the work involved in painting, stripping wallpaper or replacing furniture will break the budget.  Yes, getting new beds, sofas and tables can be expensive, but if you take the time to shop around and get a little creative you can grab some great pieces at a reasonable price.  Updating the look and feel of your home doesn’t have to be a costly endeavor if you find a bargain here and there.

The markup on furniture is huge and wholesale prices can be an extremely good deal.  Find yourself an outlet store, both locally or online, chances are if you live in the city there is an industrial or business park that will include a wholesale furniture store.  Cutting out the middle man can save you a ton of cash.  Do a quick Google search for  a wholesaler nearby, most will do small orders if you are willing to pay cash upfront.

Reupholstering Furniture

When you decide to replace your furniture chances are your first thought was to buy brand new, but that doesn’t have to be the case all the time.  You can reupholster your old pieces if you have a style you like and the framework is in good shape.  Padded dining chairs and desks can be upgraded without a whole bunch of time and it is an easy DIY project you can do yourself.  Upcycling furniture is an easy way to update your room.

Charity and Second Hand Stores

If you think second hand stores are filled with broken discarded stuff that nobody wants, you couldn’t be more wrong.  Lots of people donate high quality, near new pieces that you can pick up for a song.  Lots of these places acquire their furniture from estate sales as well so you can find a good bargain.  You may have to do a bit of work to spruce up the piece but it is well worth it.  However inventory changes constantly so you will have to check in often to find a great piece.

Handmade Pieces

There are a bunch of online sites like Etsy that allow you to pick up great handmade pieces at a great price.  You will be able to find some custom and pretty unique pieces to suit any style or taste.  Search online for ‘bespoke’ or ‘handmade furniture’ and you can find a bunch of sites that sell pieces made by hand.

Even just a couple of fresh new pieces are enough to make a big impact on your room.  It can brighten up the entire space and make it look new and fresh again.  Redecorating doesn’t have to cost a fortune or take months to complete.
